We started as a private fund in February 2004 that invested in high-quality Canadian private equity.

We put our capital behind businesses with good cash flows and strong growth potential to provide returns for investors.

This value proposition led to rapid growth of the portfolio and ultimately our decision to access a larger, deeper pool of capital from the public markets.

In August of 2005, we took the Fund public with a diversified portfolio of 10 private businesses.

We have become an important funding source for entrepreneurial Canada – investing approximately $670 million in successful private businesses since our inception.  The entrepreneurs and management teams that run these companies have used our capital and strategic advice to make acquisitions that expand their operations and enhance their value.

Newport Partners’ principals and client families continue to own a large interest in the Fund, along with the entrepreneurs and management teams of the Fund’s holdings, ensuring our interests are aligned.

As at June 30, 2010 there were 71,631,431 total units outstanding.
